Where It All Began

A Family Connection to Baja That Began in 1981

Lost Baja Discovered did not begin as a rental business. It began with a family, a love for Baja California and decades of memories along the coast.

My name is Jeffrey Fetters, and my connection to Baja dates back to 1981, when my stepfather and future business partner, Barry Taylor, began bringing our family south of the border.

For us kids, those trips became something we looked forward to year after year — a chance to explore, spend time together and experience a place that felt wonderfully different from home.

Those early family trips created memories that stayed with us. Baja became more than somewhere we visited. It became part of our family's story.

A New Chapter

The Search That Led Us to Las Palmas

Years later, as Barry began thinking about retirement, Baja naturally came back into the conversation. He wanted to find a place where he could enjoy the next chapter of his life near the Pacific, in an area our family had already grown to love.

In 2015, Barry and I began what we like to think of as our own Baja discovery journey.

We explored developments throughout the Rosarito area, looking for the right combination of location, oceanfront living, amenities and, most importantly, a place that genuinely felt like home.

Eventually, that journey brought us to Las Palmas.

We Found It

Las Palmas Felt Like Home

After exploring developments throughout the Rosarito area, Las Palmas stood apart for us. We fell in love with the building, its oceanfront setting and the lifestyle surrounding it.

We realized we had found not only an ideal place for Barry's retirement, but also an opportunity to share something our family had enjoyed for decades.

We could offer our condos for long-term rental and give other people the opportunity to experience Baja in a very different way — not simply as tourists visiting for a few days, but with enough time to settle in, explore, discover favorite places and experience the everyday rhythm of life along the Pacific.

That idea became Lost Baja Discovered.

Founded Together

Lost Baja Discovered Begins

Barry Taylor and I, Jeffrey Fetters, created Lost Baja Discovered together as equal partners.

Beginning in 2016, we offered our condos for long-term rental with a simple goal: help other people discover what had made Baja so meaningful to our family.

We wanted LBD to feel personal. Rather than simply listing a property and handing someone a set of keys, we wanted prospective renters to have direct communication, clear information and a better understanding of both the condo and the lifestyle surrounding it.

Barry and I brought different experiences and perspectives to the business, but we shared the same vision: give other people the opportunity to discover Baja with enough time to truly experience it.

That shared appreciation for Baja became the foundation of Lost Baja Discovered.

Over the years, Lost Baja Discovered has evolved while remaining true to that original vision. Today, our focus is exclusively on furnished and unfurnished long-term condominium rentals in Rosarito, helping people who want more than a short visit experience Baja as a place to call home.

Continuing the Legacy

Carrying Forward the Vision We Shared

In mid 2019, prior to Barry's passing in 2020, I took over the operation of Lost Baja Discovered and have continued running it ever since.

For me, continuing LBD is about more than maintaining a business Barry and I built together. It is about carrying forward his legacy, our shared vision and the experiences that inspired us to create Lost Baja Discovered in the first place.

As co-founder and now the person responsible for Lost Baja Discovered, I remain committed to the same values Barry and I established together: personal communication, care for our properties, respect for the people who rent from us and a genuine desire to help others experience Baja beyond a short vacation.

Every person who chooses to spend meaningful time here becomes part of the continuing story Barry and I began together.

I am proud to continue that story today.

Why Long-Term?

A short trip can show you the highlights. Living here gives you the opportunity to experience what everyday life in Rosarito is actually like.

A long-term residence provides time to build routines, discover favorite restaurants, explore nearby communities and enjoy the coast without rushing.

That is why Lost Baja Discovered focuses exclusively on long-term condominium rentals with a minimum one-year lease. Our goal is to provide people with a genuine home in Rosarito rather than a temporary vacation stay.

More than four decades after those first family trips to Baja, the idea behind Lost Baja Discovered remains remarkably simple.

I am not simply offering a place to stay. I am sharing a place that has been meaningful to my family for generations and giving other people an opportunity to make their own discoveries.

For some, that may mean retirement. For others, it may be relocation, remote work or simply beginning a new chapter of life in Mexico.

Whatever brings someone to Baja, I hope Lost Baja Discovered can help them experience this remarkable part of the world with enough time to create their own memories and perhaps fall in love with it just as Barry, our family and I did.
